August
Top Tip:
Our top tip for August is to take your cuttings for lavender
bushes at the moment.
Lawns - When the weather is particularly hot you'll do yourself
a big favour by keeping your grass long, the head grounds man
at Leeds Castle is sure long grass is why the grass at Leeds
is splendid all the year round.
Shrubs
August is the best
time to trim many of your shrubs if you want a nice compact
bush shapes (lavender included).
Flowers
Most of your flowers
should be in full production, make sure any heavy headed or
tall flowers (sunflowers for
example) are all fully supported. Dead-heading will ensure
more high quality blooms.
Vegetables
Help your plants out, crop early to ensure the
best possible continuous growth throughout the season
Patio
If you are away for any length of time make sure your
tubs and pots are looked after, there is no substitute for
regular watering so if you are able get a friend or relative
to call round. If you can't someone to water for you make move
as much as possible into the shade and water as much as you
dare before you go away.
